PRIME

The new sheriff in college football resides this week in Boulder, Colorado. Coach Prime is what he prefers to be called. I was introduced to him in 1988….loud, brash, rare athlete, size, speed, competitive, Intelligent and funny as hell to be around. He liked challenges then. He incited a near riot in Columbia SC when he begged the crowd and the South Carolina Gamecock's to try to tackle him on a punt return. Amusingly some scouts wondered if he was tough enough. He did not shy away from any contact that night. Deion Sanders is still begging for a beating and laughing like hell when you can’t catch him, or he out thinks you. It’s still very early in the season, but he’s 2-0 at major college with 85+ new players, an easy game next week, before Buffalos have to play Oregon and USC.

Texas beat Alabama last night in the game of the week. The complete NFL season opens up today. It’s also the first day of YouTube taking over Direct TVs mastery of fans ability to watch any game they wish.

It’s going to be an interesting season in both college and professional…..stay tuned

Cold Inside and Out

OK, we know that CC is a slow starter, but NO strikeouts and numerous wild pitches?? And this "clutch" 1st baseman who hit like A-Rod when it counted. It was cold inside and out yesterday. I know it's just the first game, but if you want to always jump on one player, do it to all to high priced Yankee whores. It will interesting to watch this year.

Michigan State had ridden the wave but didn't realize the clock struck 12....party was over. North Carolina might not have the best Carolina team of all time, but they were this years best team. Anyone who has played in a dome knows you must conquer the noise level by quieting the home crowd. This just happened to be the largest crowd in college basketball history and no one seems to think it was that big a deal. If they had not put up that 55pt 1st half, they might not have been able to hear one another think in the 2nd half. They took apart a Spartan group that looked like they were tired and had reverted to old bad habits. They were cold inside and out.

Tonight, the best woman's team of all time takes the court in St Louis. U Conn doesn't play to win, they play to destroy. Take a look at the athletic moves, basketball IQ and discipline this group has and savor it like fine wine; it's a vintage year.

The NIT was once again on its last legs till Penn State pulled up with over 100 bus loads of fans. The once proud tourney is now the best of the real losers. All four teams this year had something to prove. They did. They didn't belong in the "Big Dance." San Diego State, whose claim to fame was a #1 Western seed showed they could not penetrate a zone or shoot outside. Baylor, played hard but has 2 non-athletes who alternate at C so they basically play with 4 men, even with one NBA G with a soft touch and quick hands. Notre Dame starts 3 white guys. Penn State has some good fundamental players and a fan base which include a live and very animated Jo-Pa in the stands. They won.... but the fans from these four schools seemed to forget the Big East just finished their tourney here , so New Yorkers who love their hoops were not that excited. With 65 teams in the NCAA's the time has come for a "mercy-killing."
